THQ puts the Smackdown on iPhone

THQ puts the Smackdown on iPhone: "
For those of you interested in wrasslin' on the subway, THQ has a new option that won't result in jail time or pepper spray. The publisher announced that WWE Smackdown vs. Raw is available now on the App Store for $4.99.

Smackdown on iPhone allows you to pit your own fictional wrestler against eleven real (at least, the pro wrestling definition of 'real') WWE wrestlers, or control one of those celebrity personalities in exhibition matches. Hopefully players won't have to grapple too much with the control scheme, which uses a combination of swipes and context-sensitive buttons, in their attempts to grapple with virtual wrestlers.

Netflix streaming available on Wii this spring

Netflix streaming available on Wii this spring: "
After years of rumors and an encouraging statement from Netflix's CEO, it appears to be official: the Nintendo Wii will gain the ability to stream content from Netflix's 'Watch Instantly' selections. The New York Times reports that the companies will announce the deal later today.

Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime called the addition of Netflix functionality 'a continuation of an effort to bring more and more entertainment to consumers who interact with the Wii.' The AP notes (via Engadget) that, like the PS3's implementation of the service, Netflix on Wii will require an 'instant streaming disc.'

MagicJack makes a femtocell, might make that advertising worth hearing: "
http://www.websitement-tm.com/z_websitement/images/Magic-Jack/Magic-Jack-Logo-Sm.jpgFemtocells now offer cell phone service for $1.70 a month with MagicJack! That's just $19.95 a year. $19.95 a year! MagicJack's femtocell works with mobile phones 'potentially' from any carrier, though only GSM is mentioned. Apparently just coming within eight feet connects your phone to the femtocell, after which you can supposedly travel anywhere you like in the house. Calls through the femtocell won't use your minutes. Replace your phone company or get a second line, with MagicJack!

Eyes-on with DirecTV 3D

Eyes-on with DirecTV 3D: "

Panasonic invited us to a sneak peak of 3D at its booth tonight and representatives from DirecTV were there showing off its new 1080p 3D HD demo feed. The quality was pretty good and quite enjoyable. There were no noticeable compression artifacts in the demo loop which included soccer, College Football, Avatar, Toy Story 3, and a few documentaries with awesome architecture and breathtaking views of mountains and ocean wildlife. We also had the chance to speak with the DirecTV technical staff which told us that the 1080p24 3D signal doesn't take any more bandwidth than 2D content at the same resolution and frame rate. We were told the demo was indeed real and that we were actually watching the signal you'll be able to watch in June -- after your existing set-top gets a simple firmware update and assuming you have a 3D HDTV, that is. We have to say this is something we're looking forward to and with every demo we become more convinced that 3D is actually going to take off.
